Unfortunately, for many years this has been tried in Portugal.
The Academic System seems to be afraid of standing in some points and taking some positions. I remember that none ever thought in approving a bill against the National Train Company and when some of our colleagues dyed the Rector proposed the vote at the Senate.
It is a shame that the same happened in World War II. The Nations of the World stood quiet until it was too late.

We, humans, tend to act when it is too late, and already too many blood and tears were spread.
Luckily some places don’t stay quiet watching life going by. Berkeley is one of the places we find people like this, and hopefully we can pass this example, next time we go to a University, we can say: Spanish Senate, Brazilian Parlament, Canadian Government and University of Berkeley.
